Prototype Project - Design, Construction and Monitoring

E3 PROJECT - VALENCIA - SPAIN

The E3 Project was developed between 2011 and 2014 through a partnership between the Polytechnic University of Valencia and a pool of companies operating within the construction market. The idea of the project was to develop a prototype building in which the cutting-edge solutions of each company could be built and tested on a real-scale building. The project was funded by the European plan CDTi and now it works as a testing lab for all the new technologies implemented. The main sustainability-related  features can be described as follow:

  • Implementation of a ventilated ceramic façade with special construction solution that reduces dramatically the heat gains generated by solar radiation in summer.
  • Implementation of fotocatalytic ceramic that “cleans” the air from the main pollutants through the solar radiation effect.
  • Installation of self-operating photovoltaic panels integrated with the façade.
  • Implementation of high-efficiency heat pumps to reduce energy consumption.
  • Design of conditioning utilities using the “free-cooling” concept in order to reduce energy consumption.
  • Design of the building envelope with a new-concept light structure integrated with different layers of insulating materials that increase the whole building thermal inertia.
