Structural Design

CONCORREZZO ACQUAWORLD - MB - ITALY

The main structure and the roofing layers were designed to achieve a great scenography effect. The new technologies and architectural solutions such as the steel-reinforced laminated wood let designers push the engineering limits of the structure. In fact, the main structure is made of laminated wood and steel, wisely blended together in order to obtain a light but resistant building configuration. The roofing layer was built using a new-concept material, almost unknown in Italy, called ETFE. The ETFE (ethylene tetrafluoroethylene) is a polymer proceeding from Fluor manufacturing process and, when combined with the hydrogen sulphate and tricloroethan, generates a high-strength film that can be used, for example, for enhancing the roofing material performance. Moreover, this new materials allows the structure to resist against heavy-duty loads and conditions (such as the humidity of a swimming pool) but also lets UV rays passing through letting customers get tanned despite of being in an indoor-pool.
